Fairly certain La Luna is at least partially inspired by Italo Calvino’s beautiful short story, The Distance of the Moon.
If you liked the short film, I’d recommend you read it- though it’s a very, very different tale, more adult and more melancholy.

I had just finished Cosmicomics - a book of short stories that starts with The Distance of the Moon - when I saw this animated short. I was practically jumping out of my seat in the theatre.
